Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) would transport homebound passengers with its 904 buses as part of the special service during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr across the country.
“The BRTC would keep 54 buses for emergency service during the Eid holiday, as the government is working to give smooth service with BRTC special services across the country,” he told newsmen on Monday after a preparation meeting on the occasion of the Eid at BRTC Bhaban in the city.
The minister said during the Eid holiday, 475 buses would leave for different destinations from Dhaka, Gazipur and Narayanganj depots and 375 buses from various BRTC depots.
He warned officials and depot managers of BRTC about extra charge during the Eid period as the state-owned organization.
Quader, also General Secretary of Awami League, said a process for bringing more 400 buses and 500 trucks under Indian Line of Credit has been progressed, so more buses and trucks would be added to the BRTC fleet by the end of this year. “An initiative is underway for bringing 200 more buses,” he added.
According to the meeting, the BRTC is going to launch Eid special bus service on June 13 to ensure smooth and comfortable journeys for holidaymakers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The advance tickets of the special bus service would be selling from June 5 at BRTC’s Motijheel, Joar Shahara, Kalyanpur, Gabtali, Mohammadpur, Mirpur Dital Bus Depot, Gazipur and Narayanganj, Narsindi bus Depots and Phulbariya CBS-2.
The authorities have requested the home-bound people to avail special bus services of BRTC.
