900 cubic feet timber seized in Bagerhat

The forest guards in two separate drives seized 900 cubic feet rare timber worth about Taka five lakh from Chanmari area at Bhogi Staion in East Sundarban on Thursday.
Acting on a tip off, a team of forest guards of Sarankhola Range led by Bhogi Station officer Mozzamal Hoque, conducted the raid in Chanmari area and seized 400 cubic feet Sundari timber, a rare species of Sundarban.
Besides, another patrol forest guards team, led by Sarankhola Range official Mohammad Kamaluddin Ahmed seized 500 cubic feet Geoa timber from an engine driven trawler in Balshwar River.
The timber smugglers managed o flee from the trawler by jumping in the river sensing the presence of forest guards in the area, the forest official sources said.
A case was lodged with concerned thana in this connection, the sources added.
