Medical colleges admission test today: 90 thousand vie for 9000 seats

About 90,426 students will vie for 9,417 seats in the MBBS admission test for the session 2016-17. The 100 marks test will be held in the 37 centers of 18 public medical colleges from 10am to 11am today (Friday).

There are 3, 212 seats in the public medical colleges and 6,205 seats in the private medical colleges.

According to the health department, there are 100 medical colleges in the country. Of them 36 are public medical colleges of which 30 are administrated by the health department and six are run by armed forces. Sixty-four of them are private medical colleges.

The health ministry has formed three monitoring teams with 143 members.
The team members will visit the examination halls. Sources in the health ministry said it. The health minister, the state minister and the secretary will monitor the centres. Besides, the health ministry has also formed a high level monitoring body with 11 additional secretaries. The members of the body are Biman Kumar Saha, Rokhsana Quader, Nasir Arif Mahmud, Nazrul Islam, Harun-ur-Rashid Khan, Basudeb Ganguli, Suvash Chandra Sarker, Fayez Ahmed, Asadul Islam, Kazi Golam Mostafa Sarwar and Habibur Rahman Khan.
The second monitoring team has joint-secretaries of the health ministry, directors and deputy directors.

The third team includes educationists, journalists and columnists.

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said, the government has given serious attention to the MBBS test.

“We assured of highest security system to make the medical college admission tests fair and transparent. There will be no possibility to leak the MBBS test questions due to the high security system,” he said after a meeting on Monday at the ministry.

He also warned if any body spreads rumours about MBBS question leaking, he must be punished.

Sources said, the government has done everything to hold the admission test fair and transparent. The government has formed an oversight committee to monitor whole process of the test.

Professor Dr. Jafar Iqbal, Journalists Golam Sarwar, Naimul Islam Khan, Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, human right activists Syed Abul Maksud and Abdul Quayum, among others, have been included in the committee.

Contrarily, the dental college admission will be held in the 4th November.

There is one public dental college with eight units. Besides, there are 24 private dental colleges in the country. There are 517 seats for BDS in public dental colleges and 1315 seats in private dental colleges.
