The police on Monday charge sheeted a total of 90 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party including Farazi Matiar Rahman, President, Abhaynagar upazila unit BNP and Sheikh Asadullah, former councilor of Nawapara Municipality on charge of killing Alamgir Hossain Shimul, general secretary, Nawapara Municipality unit Juba League and also a notorious terrorist.
Shimul died in mass beating at an abandoned building inside Nawapara Highway Police Station at around 8:30am on October 27, 2013 during a general strike called by BNP led opposition party.
The then officer in-charge of Abhaynagar police station, Kazi Abdus Saleque, told New Nation soon after the incident that Juba League leader Alamgir Hossain Shimul was beaten to death inside an abandoned building of Nawapara Highway Police Station.
Court sources said, Shafiqul Islam, officer in-charge, investigation; Abhaynagar police station submitted the charge sheet accusing a total of 90 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its activists on Monday. The charge sheet was handed over to a Jessore court for judgment.
Local sources said, Shimul had become an unabated terrorist at Abhaynagar upazila being patronized by an influential leader of Awami League.
Opposition party men were not allowed to carry out any type of anti-government agitation during Shimul’s era.
A number of journalists were hurt by Juba League men led by Shimul while they went at Nawapara to cover a report.
