9 RAB men sued for ‘torturing’ youth

A case was filed with a court here on Thursday against 12 members of Rappid Action Battalion (RAB), including RAB-9 DAD M Saniul Islam, on charge of torturing a youth in custody.
M Shah Alam, uncle of victim Shah Alam, 25, of Sultanshi village in Sadar upazila filed the case with a Session Judge’s court in the district.
The accused include RAB-9 DAD M Saniul Islam, squadron leader ANA Mosabbir, PC Taher, NAB Kamal and seven unidentified RAB members.
According to the case statement, the accused RAB members dragged Shah Alam into a black car from CNG-auto-rickshaw Stand at Kadiadi Bazar around 7pm on November 4.
The RAB officials allegedly detained Shah Alam in an undisclosed location and tortured him demanding ransom.
Critically injured, the victim was taken to Sadar Hospital and later handed over to police.
Later, police sent him to the Magistrate’s Court under section 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
In response to the case filed against the alleged RAB officials under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act 2013, Sessions Judge Mahbub ul Islam sought the medical report of the victim.
