Eight policemen and a cook of police lines were suspended on charges of gambling at a residential hotel in front of the Muslim Hostel of Rajshahi College. Boalia police went to the spot and detained them as soon as they received the information.
Confirming the matter, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) spokesman Additional Deputy Commissioner Ruhul Kuddus said the nine detained were having a picnic and gambling in the early hours of Thursday. Of them, six belong to RMP.
The suspended cops will have to go through dope tests, the police official added.
In addition, TSI Monir of
Kashiadanga police box was suspended on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in immoral activities, Ruhul said.
Rajshahi district police spokesman ASP (Sadar) Iftekhar Alam said: “We were informed about the detention of two district police constables and a cook. The two constables were suspended on Thursday and the police lines cook already retired three years ago.”
