9 new HC addl judges take oath

Nine newly-appointed additional judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court took oath on Monday.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain administered the oath at 10:30 am in the Supreme Court Judges’ Lounge.
The new judges are: District and Session Judge Muhammad Mahbub-ul-Islam, District and Session Judge Shahed Nuruddin, SC Registrar General Dr Md Zakir Hossain, District and Session Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman, Supreme Court advocate Md Mahmud Hasan Talukder, Advocate Kazi Ebadat Hossain,
Deputy Attorney General KM Zahid Sarwar, Deputy Attorney General AKM Zahirul Haque and Deputy Attorney General Kazi Zinat Hoque.
President Md Abdul Hamid on Sunday appointed them for two years in line with the Article-98 of the Constitution, a notification of the Law Ministry said.
The appointment came into effect after their oath.
The Awami League-led grand alliance government appointed 75 judges in the High Court Division since 2009 previously.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan expressed dissatisfaction at the judges’ appointment since it was not done “according to the Constitution or to the guideline of the HC judgement regarding judge recruitment.”
A portion of the SCBA leaders, under the leadership of Secretary, arranged a press conference in this regard in the Supreme Court Bar Auditorium yesterday, while SCBA President A M Aminuddin congratulated to the new HC judges.
