Nine suspected drug peddlers were killed in separate incidents of gunfights in Feni, Cumilla, Magura, Narayanganj and Akhaura districts early Thursday during the ongoing anti-narcotics drive.
With the latest ones, a total of 59 people were killed in ‘gunfights’ across the country since May 12.
In Feni, Samiran Shamim, 30, and Majnu Mia alias Manir, 32, were killed in a shootout with police at Jammura area in Fulgazi upazila around 3:30am, said Humayun Kabir, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fulgazi Police Station
In Brahmanbaria, an alleged drug dealer was killed in a shootout with police in Akhaura upazila of the district early in the morning.
Deceased Amir Khan was the son of late Suruj Khan, a resident of Chanpur of the upazila, said Akhaura Police Station OC Mosharraf Hossain Tarafder.
A pipegun, a cartridge, a machete and 10 kilograms of hep were recovered from the scene, the OC said.
In Cumilla, two suspected drug pushers were killed in separate incidents of gunfights with police in Chouddagram and Sadar Dakkhin upazilas early Thursday.
Babul alias Lamba Babul, 35, from Chouddagram upazila, was killed in a gun-battle with police in Amanganda Salakanda on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway around 1am, Chouddagram Police Station OC Abul Foysal said.
In another drive, Rajib, 26, a resident of Changini village in Sadar Dakkhin upazila, was killed in a gunfight at Goalmatha in the upazila around 2:15 am, said Nazrul Islam, OC of Sadar Dakkhin Police Station.
In Magura, two gang of drug-paddlers were exchanging gunfights between them over establishing supremacy, a team of police went to Parnanduali Housing Project in the district town around 1:30am and found two bullet-hit bodies of two alleged drug dealers, said Tariqul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police of Magura.
The deceased were identified as Mizanur Rahman Kalu, 42, a resident of Bhayana village in Sadar upazila and Ayub Ali, 55, a resident of Niznanduali village of the upazila.
In Satkhira, Police recovered the bullet-hit body of a drug peddler in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira in the morning, said Kaliganj Police Station OC Hasan Hafizur Rahman.
The deceased was identified as Aziz Dalal, 50, a resident of Porandoha village of Sadar upazila, our correspondent reports. A shootergun, five bullets and 48 bottles of Phensidyl were recovered from the scene.
