Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive detained nine suspected kidnappers, including three females from the city’s Rampura area on Monday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Jahangir Ershad Ali, 45, Delwar Hossain, 35, Mintu Mia 46, Bachhu Mia, 46, Tamij Uddin, 48, Hosne Ara Begum, 45, Asma Begum 20, Sharmin Akhter 18, Akash Choudhury 32,
A fake identity card, some SIMs, camera, laptop and mobile phone have also been recovered from their possession, RAB sources said.
RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Assistant Director Mizanur Rahman said: “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a drive in the area from Sunday night till the early hours of Monday and detained the kidnappers.”
The RAB official said, “They kidnap people and take ransom from the families through bKash and once they get the ransom, they release abducted victims.”
The arrested persons are being interrogated, he said, adding a case has been filed in this connection.
Earlier on July 3, Waziul Islam filed a complaint with the RAB-3 in this regard and members of the elite force made the arrest following the complaint.
The kidnappers also demanded Tk 200,000 lakh from the victim after picking him up from a road in Khilgaon area.
