Chittagong district police in a series of drives picked up nine leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Pikepara of Patiya poursabha of the district on Friday evening. The arrested were identified as upazila Jammat Ameer Mukibul Islam Chowdhury Faruk,52, activists Nazrul Islam Chowdhury,42, Mohammad Ishak,58, Jashim Uddin,35, Hossain Ahmed,64, Iqbal Hossain,49, Mahmudul Hoq,62, Abdul Alim Chowdhury, 76 and Nurul Alam,47.
Mohammad Shamim, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Patiya circle said police detained nine Jamaat leaders and activists including upazila Jammat Ameer Faruk while they were gathered in a meeting at the residence of Pikepara under Patiya municipality.
Police also recovered Jehadi books and anti state posters from their possession during the drives, the ASP said, adding that steps would be taken against the arrested after investigation.
