Detectives in separate drives have arrested nine people along with some 2795 biometric registered Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards from different places in the district town.
Tipped off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of
the district conducted a drive at Katnapara in the district town on Monday noon and arrested four people, said superintendent of police of the district Asaduzzaman at a press conference on Tuesday. The law enforcers also recovered 2370 SIM cards of mobile phone network Robi, 325 of Grameenphone and 100 of Teletalk, said the SP, adding, all the SIM cards have been registered through biometric method. Based on the information found from the arrestees, the DB team conducted another drive at Shibbati in the district town and arrested five others, the SP said. During the primary interrogation, the arrestees said they collected biometric registered SIM to sell those to two traders of Dhaka and Sylhet to run illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) business.
