UNB, Mymensingh :A court here on Sunday convicted nine people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for killing a farmer in 2003.The convicts were Gias Uddin, Emdadul Haq, Ershadul Haq, Akram Hossain, Saidul, Bacchu, Idris Ali, Jewel and Helal of Hatirchar Naupar village in Ishwarganj upazila. Among the convicts, Gias Uddin, Emdadul and Ershadul were present in the dock during the hearing while the others remained absconding.According to the prosecution, Mohammad Shahjalal, a farmer of Hatirchar Naupar village inIshwarganj upazila, was killed in an attack by the convicts following a land related dispute on March 18, 2003.Nurjahan, wife of the victim, filed a case accusing 25 people. Of them, two died during the trial.After examining the records and witnesses, Additional District and Session Judge Court-2, Zahirul Kabir handed down the verdict acquitting 14 other accused as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
