FR Tower fire: 9 employees of one travel agency killed

A total of nine employees were killed of a travel agency, Heritage Air Express, when the deadly fire tore through 23-storey FR Tower in Dhaka’s Banani on Thursday.
Heritage Air Express Managing Director, Md Faizul Islam Hiru, confirmed the matter that three people are injured and two others have been missing since the incident.
His personal secretary, Mehedi Hasan, said: “Faizul sir is also shocked because they were stuck for 20 minutes after the fire broke out. He climbed down from the 10th floor with 3 or 4 colleagues. But there was black smoke everywhere and no one could see anyone.”
But Mehedi could not confirm if relatives got their bodies or not.  
Faizul said: “I still do not know how many people were trapped inside. Later we could identify nine people among the dead. However, two are still missing.”
Jalal Uddin Bhuiyan, duty manager of the travel agency’s airport office, said: “There were three women and six men among the dead. Two employees slipped trying to escape using a hanging wire. I heard the rest died, trapped inside the building.”
At that time, around 15 to 20 Heritage Air Express’ employees were present on the office floor.
Since the incident, all offices of the travel agency across Dhaka have been closed indefinitely until further notice.
