At least nine cheats were arrested on charge of introducing themselves as members of police and journalists in the city’s Demra area on Wednesday.
The arrested men are: Abdul Halim, Rani Mia, Mobarak Hossain, Rozina Begum, Selim Ghotak, Monju Mia, Rafiq Hossain, Mostafa and Hannan Matabbar.
They also rescued two victims identified as Abdul Aziz and Arman at the same time. They were victimized when they went to the cheats’ office at Demra
for talks about marriage, police said.
Abdul Baten, Joint-Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said it to the reporters in a press briefing at DMP Media Centre on Wednesday.
“A team of detectives raided the fourth floor of a building named Ayesha Manjil on the Shahjalal Road at night and arrested them with a walkie-talkie and two pairs of handcuffs at night,” the detective officials said.
“They used to cheat people in the name of marriage giving advertisement for bridegroom and bride. They used to free the victims after receiving money, as saying, we are police officials and journalists” the Joint-Commissioner said.
Even they also forced them, who went there for jobs, to sex at brothel, he said. A case was filed with the police station in this connection, he added.
