9 burnt in gas cylinder blast in city`s Lalbagh

Nine persons burnt seriously in the blast of a gas cylinder in Old Dhaka’s Lalbagh area have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
All of the victims brought to the hospital on Saturday afternoon were in critical condition, doctors said. Police suspect, they were burnt in a gas cylinder explosion at Lalbagh intersection.
Seven of them have been identified as Sabbir, 22, Maqbul Hossain, 35, ‘Sabuj’, 20, Maruf Hossain, 20, Farzana Panna, 28, Sonam Uddin, 50, and Hazrat Ali, 45.
Their details and the identity of the eighth victim, a rickshaw-puller, were not available instantly.
A fire incident in Old Dhaka has also been reported.
Fire Service Control Room office said that 12 units of fire brigade were working to douse the fire at a plastic warehouse in Islambagh’s Chairmanghat area in the afternoon.
He could not say anything about the reason behind the fire and the extent of the damage immediately.
