BNP mayoral aspirants for Khulna and Gazipur city corporations have collected nomination papers to contest in the upcoming city polls scheduled for May 15.
Nine mayoral aspirants collected nomination papers from BNP central office at Nayapaltan yesterday from 10:00am to 5:00pm for contesting the polls in the two city corporations.
Of them seven were aspirants for Gazipur and two for Khulna city. They collected the nomination papers at Tk 10,000 for each.
The aspirants or their representatives collected the papers from BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Khulna city mayor and Khulna city BNP General Secretary Moniruzzaman Moni and the party’s Khulna district unit President Shafiqul Alam Mona collected nomination papers for contesting Khulna mayor polls. BNP Assistant Office Secretary Taiful Islam Tipu confirmed it.
Besides, incumbent Gazipur mayor and BNP Vice-Chairman Abdul Mannan, the party’s Executive Committee Member Hasanuddin Sarker, Executive President of Sramik Dal, Salauddin Sarker, incumbent mayor Abdul Mannan’s son M Manjurul Islam Rony, district Chhatra Dal President Sharafat Hossain, former district Chhatra Dal Convener Abdus Salam and district BNP leader Shawkat Hossain Sarker, Tipu confirmed. The aspirants will submit the nomination papers along with non-refundable Tk 25, 000 security money at BNP central office from 10:00am to 5:00pm on Friday. Interview of the aspirants would be held at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office at 7:00pm on Sunday.
On March 31, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announced the election schedule for mayoral polls to Gazipur and Khulna cities on May 15.
The last date for submission of nomination papers is set for April 12.
