Chittagong district police in a series of drives, detained 9 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami from two upazila areas on Monday night.
Naimul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong, said the law enforcers held 9 leaders and activists from Lohagara and Sitakunda upazilas to prevent possible acts of sabotage during the countrywide blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20 party alliance.
The detained consist of 1 BNP activist, 2 shibirmen and 6 Jamaat supporters. Additional police force alongwith BGB also deployed in city and district areas yesterday to prevent any nuisance and anarchy during Jamaat called hartal across the country yesterday.
Police patrol also intensified in Dhaka-Chittagong Highway yesterday suspecting any ill occurrence during Jamaat’s hartal .
Jamaat called two- day hartal from yesterday protesting the death penalty to Jamaat leader Kamruzzaman announced on Monday discharging the review petition of the death row convict.
