A team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested nine persons who were trying to abduct people in the guise of passengers between Abdullahpur and Ashulia of Dhaka district on Saturday night.
The arrested men are kingpin Imran Hossain, 21, Jihad Ali, 18, Shuvo Ali, 19, Rakibul Hasan, 18, Nayeem Mia, 19, Zulhas Hossain, 18, Babul Hossain, 22, Habibur Rahman, 27, and Rakibul Islam, 19.
The law enforcing agencies also seized a fire arm, one magazine, two rounds of bullets, five sharp arms, and two buses from the abductor gang members.
Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan, Director to Legal and Media Wing of the elite force, told the reporters in a press briefing at RAB Media Center in the city’s Kawran Bazar on Sunday morning.
The organized crime gang members collected huge money from abducted victims’ family members and relatives, the RAB official said.
They targeted passengers at Abdullahpur, Kamarpara and Ashulia on the Dhaka-Baipail and Abdullahpur-Beribadh routes, Mufti Mahmud Khan said.
RAB-1 conducted an investigation about sexually harassed women and girls on the route and collected massive exclusive crime scene, he said.
“About 10-15 members took part in every abduction incident. Of them, some boarded into bus as passengers and rest of the criminals as travellers from different stoppages as per plan. At one stage,
they took money from passengers by immense beating after abduction,” the RAB spokesman said.
They stabbed the victims with sticks and sharp swords if someone refused to give money to the miscreants, he said.
The abductors also snatched victims’ mobile Phone sets and took money by dialing the mobile numbers, according to him.
The sized buses of Asmani Transport (City’s Abdullahpur to Narayanganj’s Madanpur) and Moumita Transport (Narayanganj’s Chashara to Gazipur’s Chourasta) respectively for use in abduction 8:00pm, he said.
They committed 30-40 abductions and robberies on the route in last four years, he added.
