Around 2.16 lakh worst-affected families consisting 9.01 lakh people have, so far, received relief materials to overcome their livelihood related hardships caused by the flood in different districts under Rajshahi division.
As part of its instant humanitarian assistance to cope with the disastrous situation, the government has disbursed 1,512 tonnes of rice, Taka 63.32 lakh in cash, 26,924 packets of dry-food, Taka 21 lakh for baby food and Taka 40 lakh for animal feed among the affected families in the division.
Moinul Islam, Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division, said there are more other relief materials like 2,247 tonnes of rice, Taka 46.18 lakh, 4,076 packets of dry food, Taka three lakh for baby food and Taka five lakh for animal feed remained in stock for distribution among the affected people.
If needed, there are relief items of 350 tonnes of rice, Taka 8 lakh in cash, Taka one lakh for baby food and another Taka three lakh for cattle feed for the hardest hit families in Bogura district, he added.
Moinul Islam said the local administration has recorded that around nine lakh people of 2.17 lakh families and standing crops on around 45,010 hectares of land have become affected in the division.
Sixty-four unions in Sirajganj, 24 in Bogura and 19 each in Pabna, Naogaon and Natore districts are the worst affected ones. He, however, said the flood situation is gradually being improved for the last couple of days as a result of continuous recession of water level in the rivers which are flowing through different districts in the division.
The flood affected people have started getting back their normal life in wake of the recession of the water level.
Moinul Islam said the district and upazila administrations with local public representatives have been conducting the relief distribution activities in the worst-affected areas through maintaining transparency and accountability everywhere in the affected areas.
He also said the district administrations and BWDB are also closely monitoring the situation and taking instant steps when and where necessary during the deluge in Rajshahi division.
Sudhendra Nath Roy, Additional Director of Department of Agriculture Extension, said the ongoing flood has affected seedbeds of transplanted Aman on 345 hectares of land besides 6,500 hectares of transplanted Aush, 1,855 hectares of newly transplanted Aman and 877 hectares of direct seeded Aman paddy in Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon and Natore districts.
In Sirajganj district, around 5.04 lakh people of 1.19 lakh families and standing crops on 14,013 hectares of land were affected by the deluge in around 1,028-kilometer low-lying areas, said Abdur Rahim, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer. In Bogura district, around 40,273 households consisting 1.66 lakh people and standing crops on 9,038 hectares of land of 167 char and other low-lying villages were affected by the floodwater, said Ziaul Haque, Deputy Commissioner of Bogura.
He said 25 medical teams are working round the clock to contain any outbreak of waterborne diseases amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
In Naogaon district, around 18,968 families have, so far, been affected in Sadar, Manda, Atrai and Raninagar Upazilas while 45,900 people of 10,700 families have become waterlogged in Shingra, Naldanga and Gurudaspur Upazila in Natore district.
