8th JS session begins tomorrow

The government may table some important bills, including those of the local government bodies’ polls on party basis and the remuneration hike of President and Prime Minister, in the 8th session of the Parliament, according to Parliament sources.
The 8th session of the 10th Parliament will begin tomorrow (Sunday). President M Abdul Hamid has convened the session according to the Article 72 (1) of the Constitution.
Before the House goes into session at 4:30 pm, the business advisory committee of the Parliament will meet Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Choudhury in the chair. The meeting will fix the duration and businesses of the session.
On October 12, the Cabinet approved the drafts of the local body bills seeking Amendments to four laws and one ordinance. ‘Local Government (Union Parishad) (Amendment) Bill, 2015’, ‘Upazila Parishad (Amendment) Bill, 2015’, ‘Zila Parishad (Amendment) Bill, 2015′, and Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Bill, 2015’ will be placed in the Parliament during the Eighth session, said officials of the Parliament Secretariat.  
A week after approval of the bills, the Cabinet on October 19 approved six other draft amendment bills seeking to almost double the remuneration, perks and privileges of President, Prime Minister, Ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, MPs, Chief Justice and Judges of the Supreme Court.
The six bills are The President’s (Remuneration and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill, 2015, The Prime Minister’s (Remuneration and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill, 2015, The Ministers, Ministers of State and Deputy Ministers’ (Remuneration and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill, 2015, The Speaker and Deputy Speaker’s (Remuneration and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill, 2015, The Members of Parliament (Remuneration and Allowances) (Amendment) Bill, 2015 and The Supreme Court Judges’ (Remuneration and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill, 2015.
The then Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan had said, all the six bills will be sent to the President for approval since these are Finance Bills and then those will go to the Parliament for the passage.
The Cabinet on October 5 approved two draft laws permitting to set up two medical universities and gave nod to promulgation of an ordinance of the proposed draft ‘Money Laundering Prevention (Amendment) Act, 2015’.
The bills of the drafts of the ‘Chittagong Medical University Act, 2015’ and the ‘Rajshahi Medical University Act, 2015’ to establish two medical universities in the country also likely to be tabled in the session while, the ordinance of the ‘Money Laundering Prevention (Amendment) Act, 2015’ may be placed in the session for enactment.
