The 8th anniversary day of Comilla University was observed with a befitting manner on Wednesday last. The day was observed with a campus-wide beautification event that usually takes place each year. Hundreds of students, staff and faculty gather together to plant flowers, spread bark dust, and enjoy.
The university premises were decorated with gorgeous lightning, ballon, colourful papers, and various caricatures. To celebrate this day, the university administration took many programmes including rally, discussion programme, and a marvelous cultural event etc.
Comilla University was erect on the basis of Lalmai Hill Track on 28 May of 2006. It has not been repleted yet with all educational necessaries, though eight years have passed. The university started functioning in 50 acres of land. Administration has failed to expand it’s area further and still now in the same limited land. Class room crisis has resulted in a dire consequence. 17 departments of CoU are functioning only in 47 class rooms.
Though, it is the age of modern technology but there is no internet facility in the university. The students are to do their important works through their own cost. If the students demonstrate any movement, the University administration promises to fulffill their demands. But all these are a cry in the wilderness.
University central library is located in a one room with 34 seats in 3rd floor of the administrative building. Scarcity of books and mismanagement are not a new thing for the readers. Though the students demand for a separate Library Building and claim to open it till 8 pm, the administration does not pay any heed to their demands.
Accommodation system is not rich enough. The university has four students’ halls of which three for male and one for female students. Nearly 700 students are taking hall facilities. More than 5000 students have completed their graduation degree from this university.
The university has two prado, two micro, two bus, one car, one ambulance, and nine renting BRTC bus as the medium of its transport system. But unfortunate that there is no Teachers’ Lounge, no Teachers-Students Centre, no Central Field and WIFI facility.
All these are common picture of Comilla university. Students of the university hope, the government will take the responsibility so far as possible to enrich the university with all educational necessaries. Yet, they are proud to be a student of a public university and wish, Comilla University will go ahead in the realms of knowledge in spite of having various limitations.
