A total of 70,602 students have secured the highest grade point average (GPA)-5 in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations this year. It was 58,197 last year. Among the 70,602 GPA-5 earners, 38,787 are boys and 31,815 girls.The results were published on Wednesday, showing a pass percentage of 78.33, up 4.03 percent than the previous year.Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid announced the results in a press briefing at the Secretariat in the afternoon.Earlier, the Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid along with chairmen of all education boards handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her official residence Ganobhaban at 10am.A total of 8,85,070 students, out of 11,29,972, came out successful in this year’s HSC and equivalent examinations. Of them, 4,67,214 are boys and 4,17,856 girls.Dhaka Board has secured the top position among all the eight general education boards with a pass rate of 84.54 while Jessore Board scored the lowest with 60.58 percent success rate.Some 78.55 percent examinees of Rajshahi Board passed this year’s HSC examinations while the rate is 70.14 in Comilla, 70.06 in Chittagong , 71.75 in Barisal, 79.16 in sylhet and 74.14 in Dinajpur.A total of 9, 14, 603 students appeared in the examinations under eight general education boards. Of them, 6,92,690 passed the examinations with 75.74 percent pass rate, which is 4.03 percent higher than that of the previous year.Some 99,581 candidates out of 1,05,849 came out successful in the examinations under the Madrasah Education Board with an 94.08 percent pass rate while a total of 1,04,587 students took part in the examinations under the Technical Education Board and 88,925 passed with a success rate of 85.02 percent.The results show that a total of 57,789 students earned the grade GPA-5 under the eight educational boards while 6,025 candidates under the Madrasah Education Board and 6,393 students under the Technical Education Board. Rajuk Uttara Model College secured the top position among 20 best-performing colleges under Dhaka Board in this year’s HSC results.Abdul Kadir Mollah City College in Narsingdi and Adamjee Cantonment College in Dhaka secured the second and the third positions respectively while National Ideal School and College and Viqarunnisa Noon School and College secured the 4th and 5th positions.The results reveal that the examinees from Science Group showed success this year with a record 82.93 percent pass rate. A total of 1, 55,755 students appeared in the examinations from Science Group and 1, 29,167 of them came out successful.A total of 3, 21,770 students, out of 4, 61,262 passed the examinations from Humanities Group, while 2, 41,753 out of 2, 97,586 came out successful from Business Studies Group.This year a total of 11, 41,374 examinees from 7949 educational institutions under 10 educational boards across the country took part in the examination that began on April 3 and ended on June 16.Some 1,147 colleges achieved cent percent pass.This year, five parameters — percentage of regular students passing the examinations, percentage of passing students, percentage of students getting GPA-5, number of examinees and the average GPA of the institutions — have been used to determine top educational institutions. Any application seeking reevaluation of the results can be submitted from August 14 to August 23 through SMS. This year’s HSC and its equivalent examinations saw some 1.28 lakh more students.Apart from the educational institutions, the results will be available on www.educationboardresults.gov.bd. Candidates can also get their results by sending SMS to 16222 with text ‘HSC’ followed by a space then first 3 letters of the respective education board another space then roll number followed by space again then ‘2014’.
