A programme has been taken up for supplying 8628 tonnes of Boro paddy seeds of high yielding varieties (HYV) in the division during the upcoming dry season, official sources informed. Of the total, 4343 tonnes of the crop would be supplied from the BADC’s regional seed depot at Sylhet city suburban Debpur, 4028 tonnes from transit seed depot at Sunamganj, 54 tonnes from the distrcit depot at Sunamganj, 51 tonnes from Habiganj district seed depot, 85 tonnes from Moulvibazar district seed depot and 66 tonnes from the Kulaura Upazila seed depot.
Deputy director, headquarter, DAE of Sylhet regional office Dr Md Mamun Ur Rashid said the programme would be implemented by the BADC and the seeds are of different high yielding varieties of Boro include, BR 3, BR14, BR 26, Bridhan 28, Bridhan 29, Bridhan 50, Bridhan 58, Bina 10 and SL-84.
This year about 461,000 hectares of land are expected to be used for Boro farming in the region, of which 78,500 hectares in Sylhet, 51,500 in Moulvibazar, 113,000 hectraes in Habiganj and 218,000 hectares in Sunamganj Distrcit, sources informed further.
