86 receive Dean’s Award in DU

A total of 86 students of various departments under the Faculty of Arts of Dhaka University (DU) have received ‘Dean’s Meritorious Students Award’ for their outstanding academic results in the Honours and Masters Examinations. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed certificates among the awardees as chief guest at a function held on Thursday at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university.
Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Dr Sadrul Amin presided over the function while Professor Emeritus of the Department of Bangla of DU Dr M Anisuzzaman addressed as guest of honour.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain and Treasurer Prof Dr Md. Kamal Uddin addressed the function as special guests. Former Deans of the Faculty of Arts Prof. Emeritus Dr AF Serajul Islam Chowdhury, Prof Dr K M Mohsin, Prof Dr Aminul Islam and Prof Dr Kazi Shahidullah also addressed the program.
Chairman of the Department of Islamic History & Culture Prof. Dr Md Tawfiqul Haider delivered welcome address and Chairman of the Department of History Prof Sharifullah Bhuiyan gave vote of thanks.
Prof Dr Siddiqur Rahman Khan of the Department of Islamic History & Culture and Assistant Professor of the Department of English Farhanaz Rabbani conducted the program.
Prof Arefin Siddique said that every human being owns the quality to do better for their society and it is education which can enhance the quality in human being.
He urged the students and educated people to utilize their knowledge properly in order to develop the country and make an enlightened society.
 He also urged the students to overcome all sort of narrowness and selfishness in the greater interest of the socio-economic development of the country. The VC further said, students must keep themselves away from any kind of dishonesty and spread light of knowledge to the society and the world.
It may be mentioned that a total of 86 students of different Departments under Arts Faculty have received Deans Award in three categories.
Among them, 3 got from the Department of Bangla, 4 from the Department of English, 13 from the Department of Arabic, 5 from the Department of Persian Language & Literature, 5 from the Department of Urdhu, 4 from the Department of Sanskrit, 1 from the Department of Pali & Buddist Studies, 7 from the Department of History, 7 from the Department of Philosophy, 10 from the Department of Islamic Studies, 9 from the Department of Islamic History & Culture, 4 from the Department of Information Science & Library Management, 2 from the Department of Theatre & Performance Studies, 5 from the Department of Music, 4 from the Department of Linguistics and 4 from the Department of World Religions & Culture have been awarded.
