Police arrested 28 persons including one Jamat worker and recovered 15 bottles of Phensidyl from different areas of the district.
Police said, during different drives, they arrested 11 persons in Satkhira Sadar, three including one Jamaat worker in Kalaroa, four in Tala, three in Kaliganj, three in Shyamnagar, two in Assasuni, one in Patkelghata and one in Debhata.
Besides, Kalaroa Thana police recovered the Phensidyl. The arrested persons were sent to jail this morning.
Police, in special drives from Thursday night to till this morning, arrested 58 people including three drug traders, two activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, four activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and recovered illegal drugs from 13 upazilas of the district.
Police said a special team of the police conducted raids in several areas of the district and nabbed them. The team also recovered huge illegal drugs-Phensidyl, Ganja and cow-fattening tablets-during the drives.
Among the arrested, Dinajpur Sadar Police held 12 with four Jamaat-e-Islami activists, Chirirbandar Police arrested six including two activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, Phulbari Police nabbed four with 296 bottles of Phensidyl, Khansama eight, Birganj six, Kaharole two, Nawabganj two, Parbatipur two, Bochaganj two, Biral four, Ghoraghat two, Hakimpur Police held three drug traders and Birampur Police arrested five with 1.5 kgs of Ganja.
Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.
Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive recovered 12,000 pieces of cow-fattening tablets from Hakimpur upazila. The arrested people were sent to jail hazat this noon.
