86 firms get licence for call centre

Eighty-six firms have taken registration so far from Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC) for opening Call Centre in 11 months since April last year after withdrawal of license barrier.
The government stopped issuing of license early last year and made registration compulsory for all Call Centres so that freelancers can work without any hassle, sources said.
Talking to The New Nation, President of Bangladesh Association of Call Centre and Outsourcing (BACCO) Ahmedul Kabir said,
new entrepreneurs are now showing interest in Call Centre.
About 20 thousand youths are working in different Call Centres and earning a significant amount of foreign currency each year. If the expansion continues, over two lakh youths will be employed in the sector in next three years, he said.
There are 238 firms operating their business through Call centre. Of them, 120 are dealing with foreign customers. Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC) provides registration and monitors the centre.
According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), the country earned USD 101.63 million during 2012-13 fiscal by exporting software and IT-related products. The amount was USD 70.81 million in the year 2011-12 and USD 45.31 million in 2010-11.
