Crimes like murders, snatching; stealing, burglary, rape and extortion are increasing day by day, which demands strong measures from the law-enforcers to stop.
Source said as many as 82 people were killed in last 6 months in the capital.
Experts say that this terrible situation has emerged on account of loss of employment in Corona epidemic in recent times.
Therefore, the law enforcement agencies have taken three-level security measures to control crime during the month of holy Ramadan.
From September to February, there were 82 murders in the capital. Of these, 19 took place in September alone. On an average, about 13 people are killed every month in Dhaka city.
Besides, incidents like theft, robbery or snatching have increased in the last four months.
According to police, there were about 112 thefts incident in January, rose to 135 in February.
On the other hand, cases of snatching and extortion were 34 in January, increased to 46 in February.
In addition, the incidence of robbery has also gone up in the last two months. The number of robberies is 10 in January, but it increased 16 in February.
Crime analysts, Professor Dr Ziaur Rahman told the New Nation that crime has increased due to instability among juvenile delinquents and low employment during the coronation period.
Crime tendency generally increases every year marking the month of Ramadan and before Eid shopping in the capital. In this situation, law enforcement agency should be more active to reduce such incidents, Dr Zia said.
When asked about the convicts in several cases who commit crimes again after getting bail from the court, Dr Zia said it is very pathetic and unexpected from the court. Reforming the ancient law is essential to stop such incidents.
However, the DMP has already taken special measures to ensure the security during the month of Ramadan and before Eid shopping.
DMP Deputy Commissioner for operations Hayatul Islam Khan told The New Nation that they had already started special drives to control various crimes like killing, snatching, stealing, and extortion in the city. Even three levels of security measures have already been taken there.
Besides, RAB has set up special surveillance teams for the marked spots of snatching in the capital. The RAB also said that it would provide information to the local RAB office in case of such incidents.
The RAB officials also suggest to the inhabitants to take the help of the nearest police station during the transaction of large amount of money during Ramadan.
