Customs intelligence officials seized 82 pieces of gold bars weighing around 9.5 kg from a passenger at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong on Wednesday.
The arrestee was identified as Mohammod Saiful Alam 46, hailing from Rauzan upazila of the district. He came from Muscat in a flight of Oman Airlines that landed at the airport at 6pm.
Assistant director of the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Pranay Chakma said, members of the directorate intercepted the passenger when he was passing through the green channel of the airport.
Frisking the passenger, the customs officials found the gold bars concealed in his waist belt and in other belongings. The total value of the seized gold is Tk 4 crore.
