At least eighty-two persons committed suicide in Barishal district in last eight (January-August) months of this year.
Abdur Rakib, additional police superintendent of Barishal district, disclosing this fact said among the 82 suicide victims 7 including one female were from Agoiljhara upazila, 27 from Gournadi, 5 including 1 female from Mehendiganj, 7 including 3 females from Wazirpur, 16 from Banaripara, 2 from Babuganj, 8 females from Muladi, 9 from Bakerganj, 1 from Kazirhut police stations. There was no suicidal death under Hizla police station.
Police sources said family feuds, love affairs, poverty, failure in examinations, mental disorders mostly caused suicides and dead bodies handed over to family members on their request after lodging cases of unnatural deaths.
