Another 818 homeless and landless families of Sylhet division are getting Prime Minister’s gift house in Mujib Barsha. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the keys of these rooms virtually at 10 am on Thursday.
PM announced at the inauguration program on Thursday through video conference from the Prime Minister’s official residence Ganabhaban in Sylhet, 818 families will get houses as gift. Sheikh Hasina said that the father of the nation got only three and a half years. His dream was that the people of Bengal would get food, education, treatment, shelter. She said, after August 15, 1975, when we returned to Bangladesh, we were not allowed to enter Dhanmondi-32 number house; we sat on the road number 32 and read prayers, asked for forgiveness from everyone. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s announcement in the Mujib year – not a single person will be homeless and landless.
53 thousand 330 houses were handed over along with land ownership on June 20. The number of single houses constructed in the first and second phase is 1 lakh 17 thousand 329. The total number of single houses allocated in the ongoing third phase is 67 thousand 800, of which 32 thousand 904 were handed over on April 26. 26 thousand 229 will be handed over today. Besides, 8 thousand 667 houses are under construction.
By making the houses more sustainable, the construction cost of each house was increased from Tk 1 lakh 91 thousand to Tk 2 lakh 59 thousand 500. Strong timber, stone pillars and Reinforced Concrete Column (RCC) pillars have been used to make the houses more durable.
The District Commissioner said that out of 4,69 houses given to the landless and homeless in Sylhet district on the occasion of Mujibvarsh, more than 2,800 houses were inundated by the terrible flood of Sylhet commemoration. 580 houses were damaged. Out of this, 314 houses have had their soil removed. Other damage was done to 266 houses. Besides, another 466 houses under construction were damaged.
