Although the educational instructions remained closed Bangladesh witnessed that at least 818 children were raped and 94 others somehow escaped rape in 2021.
A total of 14 children died after becoming the victims of rape incidents and 110 more children faced sexual harassment in the timeframe, said a press release issued by the Manusher Jonno Foundation.
Earlier in 2020, at least, 626 children were raped in the country, MJF revealed it in its yearly report, prepared based on data from eight newspapers including five Bangla national dailies and three English dailies in 2021.
MJF released the study report at an online press conference on Tuesday titled ‘Bangladesh Child Rights Situation 2021’, based on reports published in.
According to the report titled “Bangladesh Child Situation Report 2020”, a large number of young children are being raped by their neighbours and acquaintances within the family, while adolescents are raped after falling prey to love traps. It was also noted that children are not safe even at home.
During the period under review, 183 children were killed as a result of torture, rape, attempted rape, murder and abduction. The number was 145 a year ago.
