About eight thousand consumers are not getting the connection from Khulna Palli Bidyut Samity due to non availability of digital meters, hardware tools, poles and above all not being under the grand plan of Palli Biddyut samity (PBS)
About 200 applications on an average for electric connections are being submitted to Dumuria, Senerbazar, Paikgachha and to the Sadar office of Khulna Palli Bidyut Samity. To avert any untoward incident and control the situation 1000 connections on an average per month were given. It is mentionable in this connection that the deficiency under Palli Bidyut Samity is very little.
PBS Sources Said , demand of electricity at Digholia, Terokhada, Rupsha, Koyra, Paikgachha, Dakop, Batiaghata and Dumuria Upazila areas have been increasing day by day. About 3 thousand new electricity connections were given at 273 kilometers area under the grand plan in the fiscal year 2012-2013 . At least 8 thousand consumers outside of the grand plan have applied for electricity connections.
Sadanando Bairagi, a farmer of Batiaghata Upazila said, small and large industries have been built here and as a result demand of electricity has increased as well. Md. Enamul Haque , AGM (MS) of Khulna pally Bidyut Samity said, electricity connection giving is going on Unabated Due to crisis of poles , connection is delayed, he added. About 8 thousands applications for new electricity connection is pending, he said. Shahiduzzaman, general manager of pally Bidyut Samity said, bills more than Tk. 60 crore is realized from this region per year, but incurring loss is about Tk. 8 crore. Government loan is not being repaid, he added.
There are so many complicacies in respect of giving connection, shahiduzzaman said adding that the problem would be solved gradually.
Electricity demand in the district for 84 thousands consumers is 21 MW per day. The electricity deficiency at pick hour is 3 MW.
After giving connections to 8 thousand new consumers, the demand of electricity would be stand at 23 MW, shahiduzzaman added.
Palli bidyut samity is run by the Government and it’s employees are public servants, said Md. Enamul Haque, AGM of PBS.
7500 connections were given and 10,000 more connections would be given under the Master plan, said Sheikh Zahid Hossain, Retainer Engineer(RE) of a Dhaka-based private consultant farm named ‘Atlanta’.
PBS contracted with this farm for the work of making Master plan, said AGM Enamul of PBS Khulna head office. Sheikh Israfil,52, resident of village Shugandhi in Digholia upazila said, ” I am a poor farmer, I can’t irrigate my small land as I couldn’t get electricity connection, I have to depend on rainfall for irrigation.” The ongoing master plan started in the month of December, 2012 which would be ended in 2017, said AGM Enamu
