80 metres protection dyke of Teesta Road Bridge collapses in Lalmonirhat

The Teesta Road Bridge over the River Teesta is under the threat as about 80 metres of protection dyke of the bridge was collapsed in the last two days due to flow of water from the upstream at Teesta village in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila.
 The Roads and Highway Department RHD started working to dump blocks on the vulnerable spot to check the collapsing on Saturday morning.
RHD official sources said, the Prime Minister PM Shaikh Hasina inaugurated the Teesta Bridge for public on 20 September in 2012. The construction work on the 750 meter-long and 12.11 meter-wide Teesta Road Bridge over Teesta River began on September 7, 2006 and it was completed in the first week of September in 2012, and the proetction
dyke to the bridge was constructed in the same time.
The Sub-Assistant Engineer (SAE) of RHD Anowar Hossain said, resaved blocks have been using to dump on the vulnerable spot to check the dyke collapsing. “These reserved blocks were prepared by the
construction firm for using during the crisis period for the bridge and its dyke in 2012,” he said . The Executive Engineer of RHD in Lalmonirhat Suruz Miah said, the brtidge is under the high threat as it’s protection dyke was collapsed
in the last two days. RHD officials of Teesta Bridge Project working to check the collapsing through dumping blocks on the vulnerable spot, he added.
