A total of 80 extremists, who were members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), will surrender before the law enforcement agencies on April 9 (Tuesday) at Bagmara upazila under Rajshahi district.
Led by former JMB leader of Bagmara upazila Abdul Razzak Alias Babu, the extremists will surrender to the law enforcement agencies; Bagmara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasim Ahmed confirmed the matter to the newsmen recently. All measures for this have been completed, he also said.
However, former JMB leader Babu was a son of Nurul Huda of Taherpur municipality area under the upazila and was a former student of Fine Arts department of Rajshahi University.
Police sources said, the government gave opportunities the militants to surrender as they can come back in their normal life. Following the announcement, former JMB leader Babu along with his other associates to surrender before the law enforcement agencies at a function in Pabna district stadium premises is scheduled to be held on April 9 where home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, inspector general of police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary and other high-up police officials will be present respectively.
Besides, a good number of militants from 18 districts also will surrender on that function, police sources added.
Praising the positive thoughts of the extremist members to surrender, Md Shahidullah, superintendent of police in Rajshahi, said The New Nation that they must forget their previous terrible activities and police would assist them highest in future to rehabilitate, if necessary, so that they could start normal life. “A positive change alongside social and economic changes in Bagmara area could be happened through this incident,” he assumed.
