A ferry, which was heading towards Bhola from Laxmipur’s Mojuchowdhury Ghat, suddenly caught fire in the mid of the Meghna River early Thursday.
Eight goods-laden trucks were burnt down in the fire that originated in Kalmilota ferry at about 4am.
A unit from Bhola Fire Service and Civil Defence, members of navy police and cost guard managed to douse the blaze at 9am.
The fire broke out at a truck onboard and soon spread the another vehicles, said Bhola Ferry Ghat Terminal Assistant Kamrul Islam.
Being informed, members of the fire service, navy and cost guard rushed to the scene and doused the blaze after five hours of frantic efforts.
Staff and passengers took position behind the ferry during the incident.
