Eight shops were gutted in a fire which broke out at a kitchen market in Tala upazila on Tuesday night.
Mehedi Russel, officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, said the fire broke out around 11:30am and spread quickly.
On information, a firefighting unit went to the spot and extinguished the blaze after an hour of frantic effort.
The fire gutted eight shops.
Shop owners claimed that goods worth several lakh taka were destroyed.
