Police in a drive arrested eight leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, from Shimultala Ghat in Bagha upazila on Friday evening.
Tipped off, a team of police raided the area and arrested the eight Shibir men while holding a clandestine meeting around 6 pm, said Ali Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Bagha Police Station.
The arrestees were identified as Rashidul Islam Ranju, president of Bhagha upazila unit Islami Chhatra Shibir, Sabuj, office secretary of upazila unit Shibir, Nazmul Islam, Bulbul Hasan, Faisal Ahmed, Raihan, Manik and Milon.
Police also recovered some jihadi books from their possessions, the OC added.
