The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Tuesday approved eight development projects involving Tk 3,289.43 crore, including three projects for developing and widening important regional highways in Khulna, Comilla and Rangpur zones.
The approval came from the weekly Ecnec meeting held at the NEC conference room here with Ecnec Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. Briefing reporters after the meeting,
Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said a total of eight projects were approved at the meeting with an estimated cost of Tk 3,289.43 crore. “Of the total project cost, Tk 2,412.44 crore will come from the national exchequer, while Tk 34.59 crore from the organization’s own fund, and the rest of Tk 842.40 crore from project assistance,” he said. Of the approved eight projects, six are new while two are revised ones.
During the July-March period of the current fiscal year, the Planning Minister said, the ADP implementation rate reached 45 percent with an overall expenditure of Tk 53,864 crore which is around Tk 11,000 crore higher than the July-March period of the last fiscal year.
The ADP implementation rate during the July-March period of the last fiscal year totaled 44 percent with an overall expenditure of Tk 41,975 crore. Mustafa Kamal said the position of various ministries and divisions towards implementing the ADP is so far good this year adding, “Hopefully, we’ll be able to implement the ADP allocation this year.” He also said the Planning Commission has so far implemented various reform initiatives for which the implementation capacity of the various executing agencies have been increased.
The Planning Minister said Roads and Highways Department will implement the upgradation of all the three important regional highways with proper width and standard by December, 2019.
The upgradation of the regional highway of Khulna Zone into proper standard and width would be implemented at an estimated cost of Tk 599.74 crore, while that of Comilla Zone at Tk 476.39 crore and that of Rangpur Zone at cost of Tk 598.10 crore. The Ecnec meeting also approved the construction of Barisal Metropolitan and Khulna District Police Line with an estimated cost of Tk 152.10 crore.
The minister said the Prime Minister at the meeting asked the authorities concerned to bring a project addressing the accommodation problem of police in various police lines across the country.
The other projects approved at the meeting are Coastal town environmental infrastructure project, 1st revised, with Tk 1,057.51 crore, various important Roads development of Rajshahi metropolis with Tk 172.98 crore, Kishoreganj-Karimganj-Chamraghat-Mithamain road development (Chamraghat-Mithamain portion) with Tk 132.53 crore, Installation of two automatic 10 Kilowatt FM Radio Station Centers at Mymensingh and Gopalganj districts, 1st revised, with Tk 100.08 crore. Ministers and State Ministers, Planning Commission members and Secretaries concerned were present at the meeting.
