In Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar district 12 projects were approved in 12 unions of the upazila with the funds allocated under ADP in the financial year 2020-2021.
Complaints have been lodged against the concerned contractors for not doing the project work properly in 4 of these unions. Besides, the contractors have not started the work of the project in 6 unions of the upazila yet but the duration of the project is only two months. According to sources, Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed, an MP from Moulvibazar-2 Kulaura Constituency, sent a list of 12 projects along with the chairman of the district council for the development of 12 unions in his constituency, which was accepted. In the 2020-2021 financial year, 12 road bricklaying works were approved at a cost of Tk 50 lakhs. in this 12 Project, 8 Union Project has not started. Among them Tahmid Enterprise owned by Khasruzzaman got the responsibility of implementing the work of two projects in Prithimpasha and Karmadha Unions of Kulaura and Barshan Enterprise owned by Vijay Krishna Das got the responsibility of implementing the work of two projects in Baramchal and Brahmanbazar Union.
It has been seen on the spot that in the project of Prithimpasha Union, about 800 feet of brick has been made without using sand without box and using quality bricks. In the Karmadha Union project, about 1000 feet of bricklaying has been done but the road has been bricklayer using low quality bricks.
Besides, it has been learned that substandard work has been done in Baramchal and Brahmanbazar Union projects. Muhibul Islam Azad, UP Chairman of Karmadha said, The work of my union project was not done properly. The contractors have done a very poor job. Khasruzzaman, the owner of Tahmid Enterprise, the contractor (the project of Prithimpasha and Karmadha Union) said, I have been implementing the work as per the schedule. There was no irregularity in the work. Combined with the two projects, I have lost taka 1 lakh 60 thousand due to the high price of bricks.
Vijay Krishna Das, owner of Barshan Enterprise (the project of Baramchal and Brahmanbazar) said, I have been working for two months but have not received any bill yet. I did the job properly. Due to the increase in the price of bricks, the two projects have lost about taka 50 thousand. But other contractors have not started work yet. Saidur Rahman, Assistant Engineer of Moulvibazar Zila Parishad said, due to the increase in the price of bricks, the contractors are delaying the commencement of work. Even then work has been done in 4 unions. If there is any irregularity in the work, necessary action will be taken against the contractor by inspecting the site. Moreover, the term of the project is still pending. The works will be implemented ahead of schedule.
