Some 8 poachers of deer were arrested along with 70 traps (used for catching deer), a few kgs. venison (flesh of deer),one mechanized boat, 2 small boats and some locally made arms by the forest department from Nandabala area under Chandpai forest range in the Eastern Division of Sundarban forest on Friday morning .
The arrested poachers hail from Shikirdanga area under Rampal Upazila in the district.
Amir Hossain Chowdhujry, DFO of the Eastern Division of the forest said that on the day while a contingent of the forest guards were discharging their normal patrol duties in the forest found a mechanized boat at Nandabala area of the forest in suspicious movement. Then the forest guards seized it, searched the same and recovered the traps, venison and arrested 8 poachers of deer from there. On the same day the arrested poachers were sent to the court at Bagerhat in the after noon.
Forest department officials said , the arrested poachers had been hunting spotted deer, Royal Bengal tigers, crocodiles and other wild animals in Sundarbans for a long.
