8 outlaws get life term for killing 3 cops in Pabna

A speedy trial tribunal here on Wednesday sentenced eight outlaw party members to life term imprisonment in a case filed for killing three policemen in Bera upazila of Pabna district on July 20, 2010.
The lifers are Jahurul Islam, Hashem alias Khokon alias Bacchu, Joson Mollah alias Javed, Nizam Fakir, Rafiq alias Joita Rafiq, Ayub Ali, Shukur Ali Sarder and Jahangir Alam alias Kana Alam. Among them, Jahurul and Bachchu were tried in absentia. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer
one year more imprisonment. According to the prosecution, Sub-Inspector Kofil Uddin, Nayek Wahed Ali and constable Shafiqul Islam of Dhalarchar Police outpost, were shot dead by the outlaws at Maldar Hat badh in Bera upazila on July 20, 2010. Constable Rashidul Islam filed the case with Bera Police Station on July 21.
Later, police pressed chargesheet against 15 people. After examining all the records and witnesses, tribunal Judge Anup Kumar Roy, handed down the verdict acquitting three other accused. Besides, four accused died during the trial.
