Eight nomination papers were cancelled due to various faults and 51 other candidates’ nomination papers were found valid and accepted during the scrutiny works done by the Returning officer and DC Majedur Rahman Khan on Sunday till afternoon.
SP Zihadul Kabir, District Election Officer Helaluddin Khan and Assistant Returning officers of five constituencies were present on the occasion.
Of the cancelled nominations, four are independent candidates, two are BNP, one is JP and one is LDP candidate. Contacted, the candidates said, they would appeal to the CEC office for getting their nominations.
In Chandpur -4 , Faridganj, Constituency, BNP candidate ex-BNP MP Harunur Rashid (popularly known as Lion Harun), was cancelled as his party’s nomination-related papers were submitted later than the schedule time of the Government. Neither he himself nor his proposer and seconder were present at the time of scrutiny and also he had less than one per cent voters’ support.
Besides, the nomination papers of Abul Kalam Azad and Abu Jafar Md Saleh- both Independent candidates, and of another BNP candidate Reazuddin Noshu were found incomplete and so, their nominations were also cancelled.
In Chandpur-5 , Hajiganj-Shahrasti, Constituency, the nomination papers of JP candidate Khurshed Alam Khushu and LDP candidate Neyamul Bashir were cancelled as some important papers of the concerned banks were not found/enclosed along with their nomination papers.
In Chandpur-1-( Kochua) Constituency, the nomination papers of Independent candidate Khandaker Mosharaf Hossain was cancelled as he had less than one per cent voters support. The same matter happened to the Independent candidate for Chandpur -2 Constituency,( Matlab South and Matlab North Upazilas) Khairul Hasan and so, his nomination paper was cancelled as per rule.

In Chandpur- 1 ,Kochua, Constituency, nomination papers of two AL candidates- Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir and Md Ghulam Hussain, three BNP candidates- A N M Ehsanul Huque Milon,now in jail, his wife Najmunnahar Baby and Mosharaf Hossain, Prof AKSM Shahidul Islam( Independent), Emdadul Huque Rumon(JP), Nurul Alam Majumder( Islami Front),Jubayer Ahmed(Islami Andolon) and Azad Hossain (Gono Forum) were found valid.
In Chandpur- 2 ( Matlab South and North Upazilas) Constituency, the nomination papers of AL’s heavyweight candidates- Mofazzol Hossain Chwodhury Maya Bir Bikram and Nurul Amin Ruhul, BNP candidates -Dr Jalaluddin and Tanvir Huda, Emran Hossain Mia(JP), Ashrafuddin(Islami Andolon),Md Monir Hossain(Islami Oikyo Jote) and Nurul Amin Lytton (Muslim League) were found valid and okayed.
In Chandpur- 3, Sadar-Haimchar Upazilas, Constituency, the nomination papers of AL’s lone candidate Dr Dipu Moni, BNP candidates- Sk Farid Ahmed Manik and ex-BNP Mohila MP-Rasheda Begum Hira, Advocate Fazlul Huque Sarker (Nagorik Oikya Jote), SMM Alam (JP), Advocate Selim Akbar(Gono Forum), Abu Jafar Mainuddin (Islami Front), Joynal Abedin Sheikh (Islami Andolon), Dewan Kamrunnessa (Jaker Party), Shahjahan Talukder(BSD), Md Azizur Rahman (Biplobi Workers’ Party) and Mizanur Rahman (Tarikat Federation) were found valid and okayed.
In Chandpur-4 (Faridganj) Constituency, nomination papers of AL candidates-Dr Shamsul Huqe Bhuiyan and journalist Shafiqur Rahman, BNP candidates- MA Hannan and Kazi Rafiqul Islam, Jahidul Islam Roman(Independent), Dr Md Shahjahan ( Gono Forum), Mainul Islam(JP), Makbul Hossain(Islami Andolon), Anisuzzaman Bhuiyan (BSD) , Delwar Hossain Patwary (NAP), Bachchu Mia Bhasani (Jaker Party), Golam Mahmud Bhuiyan Manik (Islami Front) and Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan (Muslim League) were found valid and accepted.
In Chandpur-5 (Hajiganj-Shahrasti) Constituency, the nomination papers of Major Rtd Rafiqul Islam(AL), MA Matin and Mominul Islam(both BNP), Monir Hossain Majumder (JSD), Abu Sufian Al Kaderi (Islami Front), Shahadat Hossain (Islami Andolon), Syed Bahadur Shah Mojaddedi (Islamic Front Bangladesh) and Wahed Mollah(Jaker Party) were found valid and approved. Internal/ intra party conflicts are surfacing day by day among the major parties and supporters where there are more than one contesting candidates of AL and BNP jote such as – in Chandpur-1 (Kochua), in Chandpur- 2 (Matlab Dakhshin- Uttar Upazilas ), in Chandpur- 3 (Sadar-Haimchar ), in Chandpur-4 -Faridganj and in Chandpur-5 ( Hajiganj-Shahrasti) Constituencies. And so, for the sake of unity and victory in the coming poll, one should sacrifice for other candidate to stop this intra party conflict- feel the veteran politicians.. The sooner, the better for campaigning -added they.
