8 new departments at IU

The authority of Islamic University finally got approval from the University Grant Commission (UGC) to launch eight new departments from this Academic Year 2017-18.
The Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Dr Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari announced the approval in a press conference on Monday.
A number of 540 new seats will be available for these eight subjects, he added.
The newly launched departments are: Departments of Law and Land Management under Law faculty, Development Studies, Social Welfare under Humanity and Social Science Faculty, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmacy and Environmental Science and Geography under Science faculty, Human Resource Management and Tourism and Hospitality Management under Business Faculty.
IU Registrar in Charge SM Abdul Latif said, ‘Aspirants can be admitted in the new departments from upcoming session including 25 other departments.
‘Now the total number of departments are 33 and 2235 seats are available for these departments, he added ‘
Earlier, a 3 member UGC delegation headed by Prof Dr M Shah Nowaz Ali, member of UGC visited the university on Thursday to investigate the availability of infrastructure and lab facilities.
