Age Group Swimming: 8 more national records set up on 2nd day

Eight more new national records were established in the 34 events decided on the 2nd day of the three-day Cotton Group 30th National Age Group Swimming Championship at the Syed Nazrul Islam National Swimming Complex in Mirpur on Tuesday.
With the day’s feat, 14 new national records were made in the championship in the 70 events decided on the first two days.
Ariful Islam of BKSP created two records on the day — first in the 200-meter breaststroke and the 2nd in 100-meter freestyle for 18-20 years age group. With the day’s feat, Ariful made three new national marks.
Mariam Khatun of Bogra Swimming Center set up three new national marks in 18-20 years age group today (Tuesday) in 200-meter breaststroke, 200-meter backstroke and 100 meter butterfly to raise her individual tally to five new records in the first two days.
Mitu Miah of BKSP set up a national record in 200 meter backstroke for 13-14 years age group; Suraiya Akhter of BKSP in 200 meter backstroke for the same age group while Riya Akhter Moni of BKSP in 50 meter freestyle for up to 10 years.
Earlier, on the first day (Monday), six national records were bettered.
Ariful Islam of BKSP made record in the 200-metre freestyle for 18-20 years age group; Marium Khatun of Bogra SC in the 200-metre butterfly for 18-20 years age group; Zahidul Islam of BKSP in 200-metre freestyle for 13-14 years age group; Mukti Khatun of Ansar in 100-metre breaststroke for 11-12 years age group; and Nayan Ali of Bogra SC in 200-metre individual medley for 13-14 years age group.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) established their absolute supremacy in the meet securing 48 gold, 40 silver and 20 bronze medals, Bangladesh Ansar were a distant 2nd with 12 gold, 12 silver and 15 bronzes while Bogra Swimming Centre in the 3rd slot with nine gold, six silver and one bronze medal.
A total of 378 boys and 163 girls from 52 teams, split into five age groups, are competing in 100 swimming and three diving events in five age groups — Under-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-17 and 18-20 years.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder will be the chief guest at the closing function on Wednesday at 4 pm.
