Eight persons were killed in different incidents on Wednesday across the country. The sad incidents took place in Sirajganj, Gazipur, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Naogaon and Mymensingh.
In Sirajgonj, two labourers were killed and five others injured when a boiler of a rice mill blasted at Rameshwargati village in Raiganj upazila at the morning. The deceased were identified as Nasiruddin, 25, son of Altaf Ali, and Idris Ali, 24, son of Nasim Sheikh, inhabitants of the village.
Officer-in-charge of Raiganj Police Station Rashedul Islam said that Nasiruddin and Idris, along with five others, were boiling rice at the rice mill in the morning.
Suddenly, the boiler blasted with a big bang around 7 AM, leaving Nasiruddin and Idris dead on the spot. The five injured persons were sent to Shaheed M Mansur Ali Medical College and Hospital, the OC added.
In Gazipur, a Awami League-backed union parishad member candidate was hacked to death by miscreants at Bankoramona village in Prohlapur union under Sreepur upazila on Tuesday night, three days ahead of the UP elections.
The deceased was identified as Akter Hossain from Marta village of the union. Joydebpur police station officer-in-charge Khondakar Rezaul Hassan said that a gang of miscreants intercepted Akter Hossain, also a local AL leader, at Bankoramona when he was returning home completing his election campaign at about 11:00pm.
The gang members hacked Akter indiscriminately with sharp weapons and fled the scene, leaving him dead on the spot. Locals spotted the body lying in the area and informed police. Police recovered the body and sent it to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
Police suspected that Akter might have been killed over a previous enmity and arrested a woman named Halima, wife of Mofijul.
In another incident, one Rassel (30), whom RAB arrested, jumped from the vehicle at Sreepur upazila of Gazipur and died. Helalul Islam, the officer-in-charge of Maona highway thana confirmed the incident.
In Nilphamari, an assistant of a tractor’s driver died when he fell under the wheel of the tractor at Baishpukur village of Dimla upazila at noon. He was identified as the son of Mokbul Hossain of that village.
In Gaibandha, Rajib Hossain Chopol, a 15-year old student was killed at Gobindagonj upazila. The witnesses said that the deceased was on the roof the bus going for picnic. When the vehicle was going out of the school premises through the gate, his head was struck with it and he died, said Md. Mojammel Haque, the officer-in-charge of Gobindagonj police station confirmed the incident.
In Mymensingh, one Samla Khatun (48) died when a truck hit her at Dharabazar of the Haluaghat upazila. The officer-in-charge of the police station MA Haque confirmed the incident.
In Naogaon, a dead body of an unidentified woman (60) was recovered by police from near Ahsangonj Railway Station under Atrai upazila. Masud Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Atrai police station confirmed the incident.
