8 killed in road crashes

At least eight persons, including two teachers, were killed and many others injured in separate road crashes across the country on Friday.
In Gazipur, at least four pedestrians were killed in a tragic road accident when a truck hit them on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Sreepur upazila on Thursday midnight.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir, 25, son of Mujibur Rahman; Saiful, 24, son of Alfaz Uddin, from Nakla of Sherpur; Badshah Mia, 19, son of Ahamad Ali, from Gouripur upazila of Mymansingh; and Rafiqul Islam, 53, from Netrakona district.
Md Ayub Ali, Sub-Inspector of Mawna Highway Police Station, told the media that the victims were walking towards Mawna by the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 11:30pm. Just then, a reckless truck ran over the four pedestrians as its driver lost control on the steering, leaving two of them dead on the spot and others injured.
Later, an injured person died on way to hospital.
On information, police recovered the bodies and detained the truck driver and seized the vehicle.
