8 killed, 10 hurt in road accidents

Eight people were killed and 10 others injured in separates road accidents in Munshiganj, Rajshahi and Chittagong districts on Wednesday.
In Munshiganj, four people were killed and 10 others injured as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch at Chaltipara on Dhaka-Mwna Highway in Shirajdikhan upazila in the evening.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet. In charge of Hasara police camp Md Hasan said the Dhaka-bound bus from Mawa fell into a roadside ditch while its driver lost his control over the steering around 5.15pm, leaving the trio dead on spot and 10 others injured.
In Rajshahi, two motorcyclists were killed in a collision between a motorcycle and an ambulance in city’s Bahorompur area under Rajpara police station in the morning. The deceased were identified as Mamunur Rashid, 44, son of Siraj of Guripara area in the city and Montu Hossain, 40, son of Majder of the city’s Shyampur area.
Assistant Sub-inspector of Rajpara police station Enamul Haque said the accident took placed when the ambulance coming from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital collided with the motorcycle in the area around 11am, leaving the two critically injured.
Later, locals rescued the injured and sent them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead. In Chittagong, two people were killed in a road accident at Noakhal Mukh in Satkania upazila of the district in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Anowar Hossain, 28 and Manowar Hossain, 23, hailed from Mirsarai upazila.
Officer-in charge of Dohazari police station AKM Kawsar Chowhury said a Cox’s Bazar-bound bus of ‘Shah Amin Paribahan’ collided head-on with a pick-up van coming from the opposite direction, leaving the pickup driver Anowar and his helper Manowar dead on spot.
