A fire gutted at least eight tin-shed godowns of jhut (garment factory wastes) in Palli Biddyut area in Kaliakoir upazila early Monday.
Fire service sources said originating from electric short circuit in a warehouse the fire broke out at about
4:30 am and soon engulfed the adjoining seven godowns.
Being informed, six fire-fighting units from Joydebpur, Kaliakoir, Savar EPZ and Mirzapur rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts. The extent of loss caused by the fire could not be known immediately.
