A mobile court sentenced eight people to one month’s imprisonment each for taking drugs in Sadar upazila on Sunday.
The convicts were identified as Ranjit Das, 50, Alok, 28, Jahurul Islam, 28, Taposh Chandra Das, 25, Helal Uddin, 20, Tota, 37, Shah Alam, 38 and Jasim, 28, all residents of the upazila. Assistant superintendent of Chapainawabganj police Sahidar Rahman, commanding officer of Rapid Action Battalion-5, said tipped off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and arrested the eight people when they were taking drugs at about 12:45pm.
Later, they were produced before a mobile court led by executive magistrate Mizanur Rahman which sentenced each of them to one month’s jail.
