8 injured in clash

At least eight persons were injured in a clash between local people and staffs of Korean Export Processing Zone (EPZ) following a dispute over land demarcation in EPZ area under Anwara upazila in Chittagong on Wednesday.
 Mohiuddin Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Karnaphuli police station, said the clash erupted when local people attacked the Korean EPZ staffs while they were trying to set up boundary pillars in the land of a graveyard.
“A chase and counter-chase took place between the locals and the KEPZ staffs. Some people were injured in brickbats,” OC said, adding that on information police rushed to the spot and managed the situation.
The injured eight people were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, he added.
The CMCH police outpost sources said that eight people, who sustained injuries from the clash, were admitted to the hospital and were undergoing treatment.  
Contacted, Md Muktadir Islam, manager (security), KEPZ, told The Independent that the locals all of a sudden swooped on them without any provocation when they tried to set up boundary pillars in the KEPZ area.
